How we make a differenceThe MICCS project is a unique combination of expertise of industry innovators. The goal of the project is to establish an effective and reliable system for investigation of contaminated sites. Through the partnership of cross-industry participants, MICCS has the advantage of combining the leading innovations in contamination detection and characterization in a cost-effective solution. The partners in the project have contributed their unique propitiatory technologies and knowledge to create unrivaled cutting-edge packaged solution.
MICCS resulted in the development of an advanced in-situ and real-time method of investigating and characterizing pollution. Innovative thinking lead to an integrated solution involving a sensor-fitted probe, which is driven through the soil matrix with Sonic drilling speed while performing contamination measurements. An advanced ground radar technology is used to acquire more data during preliminary tests. The resulting information can be used to create a overall picture of the contaminated site. The use of MICCS technology can be used to produce highly accurate images of contamination distribution. The information is gathered faster and more effectively, which lowers costs and directly contributes to a more effective and quick cleanup effort. MICCS technology can have a real impact on the environmental situation in the European Union and the quality of life of those individuals, who are residing next to the polluted areas. Thanks to this technology, environmental remediation of the polluted soil can be done quicker and at a lower cost. |
The Problem
Protecting environment and controlling pollution is increasingly becoming a priority on the social and political agendas. Investigating polluted areas is the first step to limiting the effects of contamination and cleaning up polluted soil and water. Traditional methods of in-situ investigation are costly and can be inaccurate.
The project is funded by the FP7 programme of the European Union
